Waiea Parking Garage

We were recently commissioned a job to capture the perforated metal surface of the Waiea Condo Garage, designed by James JM Cheng Architects & WCIT Architecture. Being part of the newly developing Ward Village, the form and garage surface design embrace the meaning of Waiea - "water of life" with waves represented in different forms.

Preparation is important! All the decisions made about equipment choices and angles to consider could not save us from the chilling breeze and the closed construction area... No matter the amount of preparation beforehand, we could not foresee what lies ahead until arrival onsite. The objective of this shoot was to capture the metalwork by a company based in Kansas City, who have done many other jobs such as 9/11 Museum By Snøhetta, Grace Farms by SANAA, and EMP Museum by Frank Gehry.

Do we sound like architecture nerds if I tell you that we visited all of these buildings?

We had to pay a second visit as we were not fully prepared to withstand the cold darkness that is, outside the movie theatre. This time we stayed a little longer to capture some artificial light in the scene with sunset in the background.
